I don’t think so. My current sidebar gif is 3MB and it’s working just fine. But I’ve never tried more than that size. So, maybe there is no size limit for the sidebar gif.

The important thing is the quality of the video. 720p and 1080p are the best if you want your gifs to look super quality. (with using sharpen*). I download most of my videos from Real Madrid’s official YouTube channel, and as everyone knows, the best quality they always upload is 480p, and for that you should make your gifs small (i.e: 245x170). The other websites I download my 720p videos from are in the FAQ page.

*The second important thing is to use the filter SHARPEN! You have to use it if you want your gifs to look super clear/quality.
